In a night of big games, the Europeans of the league got their share of time in the spotlight. Spanish start Mark Gasol scored 25 points, including a pair of free throws with 12.2 seconds remaining to give the Memphis Grizzlies a 95-94 victory over the Orlando Magic last night.
Gasol’s free throws completed a 14-point comeback in the fourth quarter as the short-handed Grizzlies snapped a two-game losing streak. For the losing side, Frenchman Evan Fournier scored 28 points, Spaniard Serge Ibaka had 11 points and 8 rebounds and Montenegrin Nikola Vucevic had a double double (18 p., 11 r.).
Slovenian Goran Goran Dragic scored 27 points and the Heat continued to play better on the road with a 111-110 victory over the Utah Jazz. For the losing side the French duo of Rudy Gobert (6 p. 10 r.) and Boris Diaw (1 r.) didn’t do much.
In Brooklyn, Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo couldn’t be denied (23 p, 8 r, 8 as, 4 st, 2 bl.) as the Bucks beat the Nets 111-93. Bosnian Mirza Teletovic had 9 points and 7 rebounds against his former team and Bogdan Bogdanovic had 13 points for the Nets.
In the two biggest games of the night the LA Clippers beat Cleveland on the road 113-94 and the Houston Rockets also on the road prevailed over the Golden State Warriors 132-127 (Capela 10 p. 4 r. – Pachulia 2 p.) behind a triple double by James Harden (29 p., 15 as. 13 r.). Also the Hornets beat the Nowitzki-less Dallas 97-87 (Batum 19 p. 9 as. 6 r., Belinelli 8 p.)
